Hi! I'm Barb

I am a wife, mother of two young kids and a dog, nature lover, avid gardener, zinnia breeder and seed farmer! I am also a biologist with a Masters degree in Zoology. For many years I studied whale songs in the Pacific Northwest. Ten years ago, my husband and I moved away from our coastal city home, to a more rural setting in the interior of BC.

I grew up gardening (and have a bit of green thumb!), so before long I was expanding our annual, perennial and vegetable gardens. I developed a fascination with seeds and began learning about saving the seeds from many of the flowers and vegetables that I was growing. My fascination with seeds led me down the path of learning about plant breeding, and before I knew it, I had a zinnia breeding program and a flower seed farm on my hands!

Breeding flowers and farming their seeds satisfies the biologist in me, and provides me with a beautiful medium for artistic expression. It allows me to work outside, in nature, where I am my happiest self. It creates a world full of beauty and wonder for my children to grow up in.

It brings me so much joy to be able to share a piece of my little paradise with others through my seeds. I hope my seeds bring you as much joy as they bring me and my family.

Your flower friend,

Barb

Our Zinnias

All of the zinnias we grow are from the results of our breeding efforts (we don't grow any commercial varieties or varieties originating from other small breeders).

Our new varieties are all "works-in-progress" and not yet stable (although Windfall Peach is very close!). Breeding a new stable variety that produces predictable results takes many years of work and dedication. While we work on stabilizing our new varieties, we are offering blends of seeds from our works-in-progress. Although our seeds do not yet produce predictable results, they are guaranteed to produce an array of gorgeous, one-of-a kind, diverse flowers and some stunning surprises.

Our Seeds

  • All of our seeds are grown by us at our small farm in the semi-arid hills of Kamloops, British Columbia Canada.
  • Our seeds are from strong, vigorous, field-grown plants that are adapted to a very hot, dry and windy climate.
  • Our seeds are grown without chemicals (no pesticides, herbicides or fungicides).
  • We take great care to grow, harvest and clean our seeds with practices that ensure great germination rates and healthy seedlings.
